We are currently seeking an Assistant Accountant who will report to the Financial Controller in the Finance Shared Service Centre in Haywards Heath.
Your opportunity
You will work collaboratively within the Finance Shared Services department in order to support on the preparation of the month end reporting, compliance activities and daily UK finance operations.
How you will contribute
- Support the Financial Controller in the preparation of month end reporting, including posting month end journals, preparing prepayments and asset accounting
- Preparation of balance sheet reconciliations
- Reviewing Intercompany postings
- Support in VAT return preparation and other Fiscal submission
- Business expense processing (CONCUR expenses)
- Assisting in maintaining capital allowances ledger
- Assisting in the preparation of statutory accounts
- Responding and supporting with queries raised by stores or operational teams
- National statistics reporting
- Responding to internal and external audit queries
- Other Ad hoc reporting
Who you are
- Minimum part AAT qualified or ACCA/CIMA/ACA part qualified
- Retail industry experience beneficial
- Previous experience in an Accounting /Accounts Payable background
- Good Excel skills, exposure to SAP / CONCUR.
- Exposure to VAT accounting would be preferable although not essential.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy, clear and concise communication
- Ability to keep the team informed of progress whilst working independently.
- Confidence in asking questions, confirming understanding of processes and problem solving.
- Good grasp of accounting/tax concepts and their application or willingness to learn quickly.
- Taking responsibility for completion of work allocated
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple deadlines.
- Pro-active in suggesting process improvements.
- Flexible approach to working in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem solving and analytical skills.
